A Newborn Photo Shoot With All White Blankets & Wraps At My London Photography Studio

I’m excited to share this baby boy’s newborn photo shoot with you today, which took place at my South West London studio when he was ten days old.

The ideal time for a newborn session is when babies are between 5 and 14 days old, so this was perfect timing. During this window babies typically spend most of the day sleeping and are most likely to be settled and relaxed during their shoot. At this age babies also typically enjoy being curled up in womb-like poses, which makes the newborn photography poses comfortable for them.

Having the shoot so early in your baby’s life means that it’s best to plan ahead so most families book their session before their baby is born. Because babies rarely arrive on time, I make a note of their due date when they book and then we confirm the date of their session once their baby arrives.

Using all white blankets and wraps in the newborn photo shoot

At the studio I have a large selection of blankets and wraps in soft, neutral tones. And before each session I’ll work with the family to choose a colour theme that fits their style, and complements their home decor should they choose to display the pictures on the wall.

For this baby’s session his parents chose an all white colour scheme.

Having an all-white newborn photo shoot is becoming increasingly popular, and it’s easy to see why. The simplicity of the backdrop means that the focus is entirely on your baby and their gorgeous little details.

Dressing baby for an all-white newborn photo shoot

Typically, babies are undressed during their newborn session and are either wrapped or completely naked. This complements my natural style of photography. But from time to time I’m asked by parents whether they can bring some clothes for their baby to wear during the newborn photo shoot.

When we’re using all-white blankets and wraps simple, well-fitting clothing such as a plain, white vest can work really well and complement the simplicity of the backdrop.

For this baby boy’s newborn session his parents chose to have a few photographs of him in a plain white vest, and then the remainder without any clothing.

Time for newborn portraits and family portraits

During a newborn session I’ll spend the majority of the time photographing your new baby, and take a baby-led approach. I’ll follow your baby’s lead and if they need to pause for a feed, nappy change or cuddle we will do just that. I build plenty of time into the session to allow for these breaks, so there’s no rush.

Whilst I’m photographing your baby you can relax. My studio is designed to be a calm, relaxed space. I have a selection of organic teas coffee and snacks for you to enjoy,  as well as baby change, feeding pillows, and organic toiletries on hand. My priority is for you to feel relaxed and comfortable and have an enjoyable experience.

At the end of the session we’ll take parent and baby photographs, family photographs and sibling photographs if you have older children.
