An Older Newborn Session With A 5 Week Old Baby Girl
I’m delighted to share this gorgeous baby girl’s older newborn session with you today. It took place earlier this year when she was just 5 weeks old.
Older newborn sessions are suitable for babies aged 2-8 weeks, and I offer them for families who have missed the traditional ‘2 week window’ for newborn photography. Although babies tend to be less sleepy, and less flexible than in the earlier weeks it is still possible to capture a beautiful set of baby and family photographs during these older newborn weeks.
During the session we focus on photographing baby in the newborn poses that are suitable and comfortable for older newborn babies, and on taking family photographs. As this particular baby girl had an older sister, we spent time capturing sibling photographs too.
Sleepy Photographs Of Older Newborn Babies
Although most 5 week old babies are much more alert than brand new babies, I find that it’s usually possible to capture some sleepy photographs during an older newborn session – particularly with babies aged under 6 weeks.
Keeping older newborn babies relaxed enough to pose them, and capture sleepy photographs is a delicate balance of wrapping, timing, white noise and warmth.
During this session we were able to capture lots of sleepy photographs as well as some lovely photographs of this beautiful baby girl awake. Despite only being 5 weeks old she gave us some amazing, huge smiles, which were just wonderful to see!
Photographing Baby’s Tiny Details
During every older newborn session I also capture the tiny little details that make babies so unique. The tiny toes, the little finger nails and the shape of their mouth before it becomes filled with teeth.
Babies change and grow so quickly during their first year, and I think it’s really special to have a record of these precious little details from their first weeks.
This gorgeous baby girl also had the most amazing eyelashes, so I had to capture those too!
It was such a pleasure to capture all of these photographs for this baby girl and her family, and I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some of my favourites from their older newborn session.
