HOW IT WORKS

OVERVIEW
Many families start to think about a newborn photo shoot at this stage, but often find that they’ve passed the ‘ideal window’ for posed newborn photos when your baby is more sleepy and naturally likes to curl up in the fetal position.
My older newborn sessions mean that you don’t have to miss out. This session focuses on family portraits and the newborn photographs that are suitable for older babies. Capturing a beautiful set of baby and family pictures to freeze this special moment in time.
TIMINGS
Older newborn sessions are suitable for babies up to 8 weeks old, and last approximately two hours.
You can get in touch to check my availability for these sessions and book your place at the end of this page.
If you’d like to book before your baby is born I recommend that we book a date approximately 4 weeks after your due date. If your baby is born much earlier than expected just get in touch when they’re born and we can move the session to an earlier time.

BEFORE YOUR PHOTO SHOOT
Before your shoot I’ll be at the end of the phone and on email to answer any questions you have, and learn about your family so that I can tailor the shoot to you.
I’ll also share lots of practical tips to help you prepare, from what to bring to what to wear to make sure you feel prepared for a relaxed, enjoyable session.
YOUR OLDER NEWBORN SESSION
The day of your session has arrived! We’ll usually spend around an hour together and I’ll start by photographing your baby on their own. Your baby will be wrapped throughout the session and I’ll capture a variety of photographs in my signature natural style.
For the second half of the session I’ll photograph you all as a family, including sibling portraits if you have older children.
During the session you’re my guest. With a selection of organic teas and coffee, snacks, baby change, feeding pillows, and organic toiletries on hand I’ll make sure you feel relaxed and comfortable.

VIEWING YOUR NEW PHOTOGRAPHS
One to two weeks after your session we’ll meet online, where you can see the fully edited photographs from your session and choose your favourite pictures.
I’ll be on hand to give as much or as little help as you need. I can help you design albums and gallery walls, or choose the best way to display your new photographs.
This is the time that you place your order and make payment. Once payment is received, digital images will be delivered within 24 hours and printed items will follow 4-6 weeks later.

If your baby has already been born please book your session as soon as possible to ensure availability between 2 and 8 weeks of age.
If you’re booking before your baby has been born, please choose a date approximately 4 weeks after your due date.
My studio is in East Molesey which is on the Surrey / London border.
We’re a short walk from Hampton Court train station, which is served by direct trains from Waterloo, Vauxhall, Clapham Junction, Wimbledon and Surbiton.
Most families choose to drive, and there’s plenty of free parking outside.
My style of photography is very natural, and I don’t use props. I prefer the focus of the photographs to be on your beautiful baby, rather than lots of props or novelty sets. I use simple blankets and wraps as I pose your baby. The exception is for special, sentimental items such as a blanket crocheted by Granny or a special soft toy. Please feel free to bring these to the session and I will incorporate them into one or two of the photographs with your baby.
I have carefully chosen the newborn poses that are suitable for older newborns to focus on during the session.
Your baby will be wrapped during the whole session, and I won’t attempt any poses with your baby on their tummy or lying on their side as these are better suited to younger babies, and require more time than an older baby session allows.
If you would like to have a greater variety of photographs to order from it’s best to book my signature newborn session before your baby is born or before they are 14 days old. This full newborn session lasts 3-4 hours and allows time for me to take a much larger variety of photographs where your baby is wrapped and unwrapped.

During the first part of the session I’ll capture your baby in a variety of wrapped photographs. If your baby is awake for all or part of the session I’ll also capture their little personality with some awake shots. Then we’ll capture family portraits, and sibling photographs if you have older children.
No two babies are the same – for example some might be awake for the whole time whilst others snooze through it. Some love having their arms swaddled and others prefer to sleep with their hands by their face – so the exact photographs you see in your gallery will depend on your baby’s preferences and how awake they are on the day. But I hope that these photographs give you an idea of the style of photographs you will see in your gallery:
I take your privacy very seriously, and will only publish your pictures in my online portfolios with your permission. If you do give permission the pictures are always shared anonymously (I would never share your or your baby’s names.)
I will ask you about this when you book your session, and if you don’t want me to share the pictures from your session you can tell me then.
It’s very unusual for me to photograph a baby during the newborn period who doesn’t have spots or flakes or blotchy skin. Most babies do, in my experience, and it’s a completely normal part of their development.
When a baby has blotchy, flaky or spotty skin (which is the vast majority of babies that I photograph), and with their parents permission, I fix these issues when I am retouching the photographs after the shoot.
You can see a before and after photograph in this article:
My baby has spotty or flaky skin. Should we postpone the shoot?
