Teddington Newborn Photography | Natural Baby Portraits
Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of photographing this adorable newborn baby girl at my studio, which is just down the road from Teddington, close to Hampton Court.
It’s always a huge privilege to meet families with their new babies – sometimes a family’s trip to the studio is their first trip anywhere and I know what a huge moment it is for everyone. This session was even more special than usual because I had photographed this little one’s big brother when he was a newborn, and now he was bringing his baby sister to the studio. It was great to see how he had grown up!
At 12 days old, this little one, accompanied by her parents and big brother, was at the perfect age for a newborn photo shoot; newborn sessions typically take place when babies are one or two weeks old.
During these first 14 days, babies are typically very sleepy and like to curl up, in similar positions to the ones they were in in the womb. This makes it an ideal time for posed newborn photography, as babies are comfortable, relaxed, and more likely to enjoy different poses.
As newborn sessions happen so early on in a baby’s life, it’s best to plan ahead and book before a baby is born. As most babies don’t arrive exactly on their estimated due date, I make a note of your due date when you make the booking. Once your baby arrives, we can confirm the date for your session, helping to make sure it happens at the right time regardless of when your baby arrives.

As a mum of two I completely understand that the initial weeks with a new baby can be a bit of a whirlwind as you get to know your little one and adapt to your new life together. That’s why I strive to create a relaxed and stress-free environment for parents. My studio is designed to be a little oasis of calm, allowing parents to sit back, unwind, and enjoy the session whilst I photograph their precious new arrival.
To start this session, we focussed on family photographs. This meant that big brother could have his turn first, and didn’t get bored waiting around. As well as photographing the whole family, we also captured parent and baby photographs and sibling photographs, to make sure that everyone’s excitement at having a new addition to the family was captured!
After the family photographs, everyone else could relax whilst I focused on capturing precious shots of this gorgeous baby on her own. As time went on, I gently moved, wrapped, and unwrapped her to capture a wide variety of photographs, showcasing different poses and details.
There’s a bit of an art to making sure that babies are relaxed and comfortable so that I can gently pose them. During each session I use a careful blend of warmth and soft stretchy wraps to help babies feel warm, cosy and secure. This helps them to relax and sleep peacefully throughout the session.
I absolutely loved photographing this beautiful baby girl and her family. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing a selection of the photographs from her session.
