Newborn Photography Near Surbiton
Meet this beautiful baby girl. Just 13 days old when I photographed her and her parents at my studio. It’s always such a privilege to meet new families so early in their life together and hear all about their first few days since baby arrived. And of course to spend time getting to know and photograph their new baby.
The Best Time To Take Newborn Photographs
The best time for a newborn photo shoot is typically when your baby is aged between 5 and 14 days old. After this ‘two week window’ babies will often start to spend longer periods awake, uncurl, stretch out and grow larger. And as these changes happen the likelihood increases that a baby may not be able to manage some of the poses, and may spend a larger proportion of the shoot awake.
Because sessions happen so early on in a baby’s life it’s best to book your shoot before your baby is born. Of course, most families don’t know the exact date that their baby will arrive, so when you book we book you in to secure your spot, and then confirm an exact date once your baby is born. So if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, we can still ensure that we have the session within the ideal window. I take a limited number of bookings each month to make sure that my diary has plenty of flexibility for early and late arrivals!
Sleepy Newborn Photos and Awake Newborn Photos
Occasionally some babies will sleep through their entire shoot, but more often than not they have an awake period too. Sometimes babies only wake to have a feed and then go straight back to sleep. But when a baby spends a bit longer awake we can capture their gorgeous eyes! This little one was awake at the start of her session, so I took the opportunity to start with a picture of her awake.
I’ve put together some of my favourite photographs from the shoot, including the picture of her awake below. I hope you enjoy seeing them.
