A Newborn Photo Shoot Near Cobham, Surrey
I’m delighted to share this gorgeous newborn baby boy’s photo shoot with you today. He was 11 days old when he and his parents visited my studio towards the end of last year.
Once everyone is comfortable and settled into the studio, I always start newborn sessions by settling the baby to sleep, and taking lots of different photographs of them in sleepy curled-up positions. My approach is completely baby-led so I never force a baby into a position where they are not comfortable. Instead I’ll work through each pose and see what is comfortable for that baby. Some babies love curling their legs in, others love to stretch. Some love to have their hands touching their face and others don’t. It’s amazing how such little people have such strong preferences! What this means is that each photograph is unique to your baby.
During each shoot I’ll usually work with two different, neutral colours. For this shoot this little boy’s parents chose grey and cream as they will complement the decor in their home best. This is a great thing to think about, particularly if you’re planning to display some of the photographs on the walls of your home.
Halfway through the shoot I changed the colour that we used, and worked with grey. You can see some of the photographs taken using grey below.
After each session I’ll carefully edit and retouch all of the final photographs ready to show the parents. Each photograph is processed in both colour and black and white to give families the greatest choice.
At the very end of the shoot we move on to family photographs; photographs of each parent with their new baby, photographs of the whole family, and sibling photographs for families who have older children.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing some of my favourite photographs from this family’s newborn session. If you’re thinking about booking a newborn photo shoot you can find out more about working with me here:
