If you’re planning a family photo shoot, and would like to have it outdoors one of the questions you may well have is “what do we do if it rains?”
After all the energy you’ve put into choosing a photographer, choosing a location and planning everyone’s outfits, the last thing you want to happen is to get caught in the rain in the middle of your shoot.
So what does happen if it rains on the day of your shoot?
You’ll probably find that every photographer has their own policy about how they handle this situation, and so it’s a question I recommend you ask your photographer before you book your shoot.
In this article I’ll explain how I work with my clients when the weather is so bad we can’t go ahead with their shoot.
What Happens if It’s Forecast To Rain On The Day Of Our Photo Shoot?
In the run up to your shoot I’ll keep a close eye on the weather forecast, and I expect you might too! Regardless of what the forecast says, I always recommend that we don’t make any decisions until the evening before your shoot. The reason for this is that I find the forecast can change frequently over the course of a week, and a day that is forecast to be rainy in a week’s time, can often be forecast to be a lovely dry, sunny day once we reach the day before.
If it looks like it’s only going to rain for a short while, we might decide to start your session indoors – for example at your home – and then head outside once the rain clears. Or, if we both have flexibility in our diaries we could move the shoot to slightly earlier or later in the day.
Should the worst happen and your session can’t go ahead as planned you can either choose to have the entire session at home, or reschedule to another date free of charge.
Whatever you decide, we’ll work together and make sure that the solution is something you feel happy with.
