Family Photography In Wimbledon, London

Hello, and thank you for visiting my website! I’m Clare, an experienced family photographer based in South West London.

I photograph families across Surrey and London, and specialise in natural, relaxed outdoor family photography.

Last autumn I spent a sunny Saturday afternoon photographing this lovely family in Cannizaro Park in Wimbledon. I’m excited to be able to share some of my favourite pictures from the session with you today.

One of the lovely things about photographing families is that I am lucky enough to see them again, and again and see how their children have changed and grown each time. I had photographed this family a couple of years earlier, when their son was a tiny newborn baby. It was wonderful to see how he had grown up into a happy, confident toddler.

Our Outdoor Family Photo Shoot in Cannizaro Park

This was one of those days that reminds me why I love what I do. Not only was the sun shining and the park was filled with beautiful autumn colour, but the session was filled with laughter, joy and connection. There is sure nothing better than being able to photograph these things for a living!

Typically, the best time for outdoor portraits is in the first couple of hours after sunrise and the last couple of hours before sunset. The light is softer at these times than in the middle of the day, and as a result creates more flattering portraits.

We started this session in the late afternoon, so that we could catch the last of the afternoon’s golden light. This also meant that the family had plenty of time for lunch and naps beforehand so that everyone was well rested and ready for the shoot!

Choosing The Best Locations For Family Portraits

I always visit shoot locations before the day of a session to find the best spots for photographs and plan the session, so that we can make the most of our time together, and don’t have to look for pretty spots during your session time.

Our first port of call for this session was the beautiful shady spot pictured above, where the sunlight was filtering through the trees.

We started the session with photographs of the whole family. I always find this is a great way to help everyone get used to being in front of the camera. Afterall, having a professional photo shoot isn’t something that most of us do every day!

As the shoot progressed and everyone warmed up, I spent time photographing each parent on their own with their son, and of course their gorgeous boy on his own.

We soon moved on, and followed a trail I had planned through the park taking in the beautiful springtime flowers, climbing trees, playing with leaves (as you do when you’re two) and generally having fun.

Choosing The Best Clothes For Outdoor Family Photographs

I know that one of the things that families spend the most time thinking about before their photo shoot is what everyone should wear. I understand this completely; if you’re investing in professional photographs you’ll want to make sure every detail is considered.

And the reality is that when it comes to clothes and photographs, a little bit of planning can have a big impact on how polished the final photographs look.

Before each session I share a style guide to help each family plan their outfits. The idea is to be coordinated, but that doesn’t mean that everyone has to be matching. As you can see this family coordinated their outfits beautifully!

I’ve put together a few more of my favourites from this Wimbledon family photo shoot below, and I really hope you enjoy seeing them!
