East Sheen Newborn Photography
As I write this post, it’s March 2021, I’ve lost track of how many weeks we are into the UK’s third lockdown, my daughter has just gone back to school, and I’m counting down the days until I can reopen my studio in April!
I’m missing photographing these little people so much, but spending time going through my archives and sharing some recent shoots with you here is definitely keeping my spirits up!
I photographed this gorgeous baby boy at my South West London studio in November – just a few days before the second UK lockdown.
He was just over two weeks old at the time of his newborn session, and absolutely adorable.
I take a baby led approach to newborn photography – I work slowly, gently and to each baby’s pace. I pause for feeds, nappy changes or cuddles with mum or day as and when each baby needs to.
One of the things that always fascinates me about newborn babies is how they all have their own preferences right from day one.
Just like us they all have their own sleeping positions, and favourite places to have their hands as they snooze – some love having them wrapped by their sides, and others love having their hands close to their face.
It’s lovely to see, and I love how relaxed this little one was, happy to stretch his arms out beside his head.
At the studio I have a selection of blankets and wraps in soft, neutral tones. I don’t use props in photographs, and have chosen these neutral colours because of their simplicity. This means that the focus of the photographs is entirely on your baby and their gorgeous little details.
Before each session I’ll work with the family to choose a colour theme that fits their style, and complements their home decor should they choose to display the pictures on the wall.
For this baby’s session his parents chose a grey colour scheme.
