Hello, and thank you for visiting my website! I’m Clare, an experienced newborn, baby and family photographer based in South West London.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of photographing this adorable newborn baby boy at my studio which is close to Hampton Court, and around a 30 minute drive from Clapham.

At 2 weeks old this little one, accompanied by his parents, was at the perfect age for a newborn photo shoot; sessions ideally take place when babies are between 5 and 14 days old.

During these first two weeks, babies are typically very sleepy and like to curl up, in similar positions to the ones they were in in the womb. This makes it an ideal time for posed newborn photography, as babies are comfortable, relaxed, and more likely to enjoy different poses.

As newborn sessions happen so early on in a baby’s life, it’s best to plan ahead and book before a baby is born. Of course, most babies don’t arrive exactly on their estimated due date, so I make a note of your due date when you make the booking. Once your baby arrives, we can confirm the date for your session, helping to make sure it happens at the right time regardless of whether your baby is born a few days earlier or later than expected.

Baby-Led Newborn Photography In South West London

Newborn photography is unlike any other style of photography, because as well as understanding how to take the photograph, we also have to be experts at soothing and posing babies.

During each session I use a careful blend of warmth and soft stretchy wraps to help babies feel warm, cosy and secure. This helps them to relax and sleep peacefully. Sometimes a baby will snooze through the whole session, but more often than not they’ll need a break at some point for a feed or nappy change. Newborn sessions allow plenty of time for this, so we can take a baby led approach, and follow each baby’s lead.

At the start of the session, I focused on capturing precious shots of this gorgeous baby on his own. I began by photographing him in a swaddle, and then wrapped, and unwrapped her to capture a wide variety of photographs, showcasing different poses and details.

Photographing All Of Your Newborn Baby’s Little Details

One thing that I’m often asked by parents is whether I can take some of the ‘detail’ shots that they’ve seen in my portfolio – close up pictures of baby’s fingers, toes, and lips.

The answer is always yes – I take these photographs in every session as standard. I find these little details amazing as they are the things that make each baby unique.

Babies change and grow so much during their first year, but I find that these little features stay with them. And it’s lovely to look back at these pictures and see how many of those gorgeous little details that you see in your child each day were there right from the start.

Capturing Newborn and Family Portraits

At the end of the session we spent some time capturing family portraits; photographs of this precious baby boy with each of his parents, and photographs of the three of them together.

I allow time for this in every session, as welcoming a new baby is a special experience for the whole family, and capturing this moment of love and joy is incredibly important!
